machine, this is all I used for Lilo and it was fine. Hmmm... a cursory 
search on groups.google.com jogs my memory.

Try adding the line:

	table=/dev/hdg

To the 'other' section so you have:

	other=/dev/hdg1
		label=freebsd
		table=/dev/hdg

and see what that does.
