Are these cards known to work?

192.68.0.x is plain wrong.

IIRC, the one good thing about Smoothwall is that is allows pings by default, 
so things like this are easier to figure out - you know that the Smoothwall 
box will reply if the network is up.

Speaking of which, what does

ifconfig eth0

on each machine give? Is the network link coming up on both boxen?
