Normally you'll find that you can only log on as root if connecting from a
specific terminal. Normally these are the direct ones from your
computer(tty1->tty8), and they don't include the telnet
terminals(pty1->ptyx). This way, if someone has the root password to your
box, they still need another account to be able to make any use of it.It's
not normally much hassle to log in as a normal user, and then su to root as
and when it's needed.
