I think what happens elsewhere in the UK is that one or two ICT 
people do support for infant and junior schools as a part time thing. 
At any rate ... I did suggest that part-time support from an 
interested educational authority would be a good idea.  Even if it 
was only pretty pictures on a monitor or things of that sort. 

 One of the things they do in Universities is that they let the new 
students use a web browser so that they get the general idea.  Any 
unusual content that isn't suitable for children can be blocked out 
with Squidguard or several other places on the internal network.  
Basic word processor or web browser use is good in Linux and costs 
nothing if you think that an ICT technician in the local department 
usually builds and installs his/her own to save money.  Buying in 
finished hardware seems to be counter productive.  Unless of course 
the headmaster is a non-techie ??
