I shouldn't really get involved here as I work at the DCS but I find 
Will's assertion a bit hard to believe.  Most members of staff use 
either Linux or Solaris, there is increasing support from Linux PC boxes 
from the sysadmins and all the PCs in the main undergraduate laboratory 
have recently been made dual boot (Windoze off local hard disk, RH linux 
off the network).  But Wondows certainly won't disappear in the near future.
