JWZ's ranting is a joy to read. I've spent a few hours poking around
on his site - obvious not enough to spot this one tho.

vi, (X)emacs :-)

The few tools I have used aren't anything special. About the only one
I found handy is Redhat's sndconfig, but it turned out I really don't
need it. Sound (SB AWE64) worked automagically after modprobing the
modules in Slackware - which confused me - how? PnP?

So what do you use? Woody? Something scary (sid? Custom/mongrel
system?)
