Re: [Sheflug] Would you like Broadband for Britain?
seeing as everyone else here seems to have had their say, i think im in
aposition to comment aswell since i actually have cable.
IMexperience, cable is superb. i get 50-56k/sec max on morpheus, and three
of us in the house are able to play high bandwidth online games like tribes
2... all at once with no slowdown at all. i expect more could, but we've
nevr tried. upload is as fast as anything i actually need - its not as if im
running FTP or streaming radio or anything.
and i totally disagree about broadband net access being a 'right'. ill just
about stretch at everyone has right to be able to use the internet, but
thats what libraries and communtiy centres and things like that are for if
you dont have/cant afford a PC. saying broadband net access is a right is
like saying everyone has the right to own a state of the art pc.... only
what do most ppl then go do with one? hmm, lets seee, they write the
occasional essay, send a few emails and look a couple of websites. i'd
personally agree with whoever said it was a luxury not a right. and if it
isn't avaible in your area, then tough; granted, id be a bit pissed off, but
i cant exactly go and sue the company because the technology isnt available
in my area yet. it may be that it isnt even their fault - yorkshire cable
had to wait to install my cable line as the council have recently disallowed
them from doing anything outside of your property, so a tiny little hole
couldnt be drilled. if you cant get cable in your area, then wait until it
is. right now, i cant fit a goddamn swimming pool into my garden, which is a
bit of a bugger cos i want one, but if i want one, im going to have to move.
i've learnt to live with it,so should you.
so, in conclusion: im not signing any damn petition that says we should have
cable. its not a right. its a luxury, and like a lot of luxuries, it may not
be available to you. oh, and cable beats ADSL.... so nahn nahanahahana
aside, Telewest have just to give me a cheaper phone line, free calls, and
cable telly, for an extra £9 a month. thats less than BT standard rental,
and i get free calls plus free cable telly. so there. i like yorkshire cable
:)
james
hey, everyone is allowed an opinion.
