[Sheflug] Network problem
I've got a problem with my home network.
I was in the process of setting up a new mail server for work and I noticed
the network was very patchy on the new box.
When I come to look at it, it's a phenomenon I've never seen myself before.
If, from 192.168.199.99 (the new box), I ping 192.168.199.3, intermittently
I get about a dozen packets correctly responded to, then the same packets
start to reappear as DUP! on the 'ping' output with wild times like 24000ms.
The packet numbers might reappear anything like 10 or more times in
sequence.
I've tried swapping the network cards to rule out that problem, and I've
swapped ports on the hub, all to no avail.
It's definitely a problem with the new mailserver and not some other machine
on the network because I can access all the other machines from each other
quite happily. This would appear to rule out the hub as well.
Neither do I particularly think it's a cable problem because the machine in
question hasn't moved for a while, and last time I used it, it was OK.
Of course, there's always the chance that my 21-month old has pushed
something unfriendly into the RJ45 socket somewhere, but again, that's
unlikely!
Anyone any suggestions?
