A case of no-one's ever got round to it or thought of looking into it. I've
got a script that creates /etc/hosts off the dhcp server at the moment, but
I'd like to update the server to ISC DHCP 3, as that can do dynamic DNS
updates direct into a DNS server (ISC DHCP 2 couldn't do this ... or at
least, not without doing some hacks).
It's a question of finding the time as this sort of thing I do on the side. I
keep pushing it though when I get a chance but I'm too busy on projects to do
anything on the internal network. Someone else could probably do it, but I'm
the only one with any real DNS experience, so showing someone what needs to
be done will eat up time.
What we have at the moment *works* -- not ideal, but its not critical. Seeing
as 90% of the clients are Windows boxes a couple of WINS servers does the
internal stuff, with the few servers having only a minimal /etc/hosts they
need to work (apart from the two machines that generate hosts through a nifty
CGI running on the dhcp_server).
