Hmm...it might do :) I don't know about nsswitch.conf but it may well make 
use of host.conf (man resolver only mentions resolv.conf and host.conf; man 
page for nsswitch.conf is vauge but seems to indicate its only libc functions 
that will look at it (such as gethostbyname et al)).

...and I've just tried it. Plonked a line pointing to linux2.cabbages.nothing 
with a valid IP and qmail said "nope - I ain't having it":

	<cej [at] linux2.cabbages.nothing>:
	Sorry, I couldn't find any host named linux2.cabbages.nothing. 
	(#5.1.2)

But it does exist ... :)
