Re: [Sheflug] Samba and win2000
Hi Alex,
No, I was running linux as root but I had already set up a user on win2k as
'root' with the linux password as that was something I had gleaned from the
win2k documentation - i.e. you need to set up a user on win2k for any
connection you want to make over the network. I hadn't twigged about the
linux password as I thought that, like on win98, the connection to the
machine would be automatic and I would just need to enter the password for
the shared facility (drive). I don't know about PDCs yet but the reference
Fred has given looks like it will tell me.
I do have another problem which I don't understand which involves Samba. If
I mount a Samba share on this new linux box which is running RedHat 7.2 and
KDE 2, I can't open the file manager - it just refuses to appear but, if I
start the file manager first, then mount the samba share, it works OK -
wierd or what?
Best wishes,
Ian
