[Sheflug] really basic linux

hi all,
I need a really basic version of linux to use as an opperating system for a robot I
am constructing as a project for my cybernetics degree. I am thinking of using an
old pc I have lying around, and I have an old 250mb hd also. I only want something
that will give me a basic shell, as it will only need to run very simple tasks,
such as following lines, stacking coloured cans etc.

I am thinking of something like a 'Linux-on-a-floppy' distro - does anyone know of
a really reliable, stable version?
