Sorry Alex, I've been beaten by the clock on this one, my dad is in Wales and I am in Sheffield so I was only down for Easter Weekend, but thanks for all your help... I might well be posting the same query again next time I go down there.
Just out of interest though, which is the best way to go for small home networks like that ? Static IP's or Dynamic ? baring in mind that the Linux machine won't be on all the time.
