As a victim (sorry, student), at the Sheffield College, I can vouch for the
fact that most of the people there have virtually /no/ knowlege of /any/ OS
that doesn't come from Redmond. They are well and truly 'locked in' to the
Microsoft world - even trying to teach DTP/graphics on Windows PCs (while
even /they/ concede that the 'industry' generally uses Macs for such
things!).
In a discussion with a teacher a couple of weeks ago, I was amazed at how
little he knew about Unix/Linux - and another teacher, taking us for a unit
on "Web Development" opted to use Microsoft's PWS instead of Apache,
"Because it's easier" :-( (Mind-you, this is the same teacher who told us he
was teaching "strict HTML 4", and then proceeded to liberally sprinkle <FONT>
tags around ;-))
Our "HCI" module consisted of using ... VisualBasic!
Our "Procedural Programming" module consisted of using ... VisualBasic!
.. you start to see a pattern?!
Sorry to say, I find "ICT" teaching at that place to be a joke :-(
I suppose it could be worse - I could ask them about RISC OS :-) !!
Hey Ho
