[Sheflug] Trouble with permissions

Mornin' all

In my efforts to convert our desktop machines to linux, I'm having
difficulty with the permissions on a network RAID server. There are a
couple of SAMBA shares set up which need to remain as SAMBA shares for
compatibility with the remaining Windoze boxes and all the files (which
will have been created by Windoze machines have permissions set to 755. So
far, I've been spectacularly unable to change this and make my linux boxes
able to write to or create files.

I should mention that the RAID server is a Maxtor MaxAttach jobbie which
has a web interface for configuration, although I've not seen the necessity
to mess with this.

I'm obviously missing the point somewhere. Could anyone give this linux
thickie a clue please?

Cheers

Steve
