Dont know if this is any help but I have used cups for printing to
4050Ns for ages. I just got a ppd from linuxprinting.org and stuck it in
/usr/share/cups/models and then selected it on the web interface.
I have had no problems with cups and it is really easy to use with the
web interface or the command line.
