After looking at the man page I noticed that 'ssh-keygen' didn't work 
on its own. It was asking me for further parameters.  Do I need to 
add -t or something else ?

Tried -t on its own and it refused to do anything.  Asked for even 
more parameters.  It's embarrassing when I can do so many other thing 
and I can't work this out.  Web pages on the net didn't help much 
either.
