RE: [Sheflug] Blueyonder

I used to have Blueyonder, but have recently moved.

The cable modem comes with a RJ45 port and a cable for direct connection to
the PC. I think it is a crossover, but the modem may have funny internal
wiring.

If it is a single PC, then there is no problem. All you need is DHCP client
software running and your away. If you are using the linux box as a router /
firewall it should be straight forward. My problem was getting the network
cards to come up in the right order, but it worked.

When I had mine installed I had to have a Windoze machine running so the
installer could test it. This may have changed as they were looking at
supporting other OSs (at the the time they did not support W2K or XP
either). If you need support you have to translate their requests for
windows actions into the correct commands and then give them the response
they are looking for. This can be fun.

I had no problems with the service apart from a few teething trouble in the
beginning.

There is also a USB port on the modem. only the USB or the RJ45 can be used
at a time, I do not know what the support for USB is like under linux
expecially for networking and AFAIK BY do not support the USB connection.

The modem can do DHCP for a local network, but this is turned off and screws
the system up if you enable it.

The other option is to use a router and just hook that up to the modem, then
use a bog standard internal network.

Hope this has been of some help.

Alastair
