FreeBSD's SMP support is a little bit poor though, however it should be a 
lot better once  5.0 is released. The problem with the current 
implementation is that SMP makes use of a giant kernel lock, rather than 
fine-grained locking that FreeBSD 5 is going to get (eventually), so 
performance over UP systems isn't as great as it good be (and may, for some 
applications, be worse).

For SMP stuff, it's probably better to use Linux until the next gen of code 
comes out. As for the NetBSD stuff, I need to read about the implementation 
before I know if it's going to be much use :)
