[Sheflug] Share an experience

I'd just like to share a positive Linux experience today!

We've been setting up a new server with an ABIT KX7-333 RAID motherboard
(Athlon 1700XP, HPT372 RAID chipset) and a pair of 80gig IDE drives and SuSE
8.0

The Highpoint (Hipoint?) web site has precompiled kernels for SuSE 8.0 (as
well as various RH versions) and other than a small problem with initial
partitions, the exercise went quite smoothly.

I haven't (yet) tested the system by unplugging one of the drives (and would
be interested to hear if anyone has, and what the effect was), but the
installation itself was well within the capabilities of a relatively
experienced Linux user, if anyone is considering hardware IDE RAID as a
solution.

The only drawback (if you can call it that) is the 2.5 hours it takes to
remirror the drives.
