[Sheflug] Mandrake 9.0 Printing Aggro

Hi All,

I'm having problems setting up printing under the (otherwise very
impressive) Mandrake 9.0.

Oh, and before you ask, let me just get this straight. I don't
understand printing! The Linux print system seems absurdly complex and
involved to me... if someone can explain it to me in words that even I
can understand, then that would be great!

Here's what I've done on my "problem" Mandrake 9.0 box...

(1) I've set the print queue up using the CUPS interface
http://localhost:631 as a remote LPD:

lpd://192.168.1.49/lp

(2) I've used the same printer Type as I did under Mandrake 8.2:

HP LaserJet III Series CUPS+GIMP-print v4.2.0 (en)

(3) I've doctored /etc/hosts and /etc/hosts.lpd on the remote host
192.168.1.49 to be aware of the new client, and accept print jobs.

(4) I've set the BrowseInterval on the client to 0 (which sorts out
various complexities with CUPS seeing every print client as a print
server...)

(5) In short, I *think* I've done absolutely everything that I'd
normally do with a Mandrake 8.2 client.

But when I try to print I get the message:

"Remote host did not accept control file (115)"

Have you any idea what's going on here? I'm beginning to suspect that
I've left out some completely obvious step... or have I?

Thanks in advance for your help,

James
