Well firstly let me say I'm no linux guru, nor am I a print guru. However, and
whether this is a red herring and completely of no use to you, I recently
tried to set up printing under CUPs on several SuSE 8.0 bxes, using YaST.

The bottom line was that I could print locally but couldn't get the boxes to
"share" their printers with other boxes. I finally gave up in disgust and
re-installed BSD printing, suspecting that CUPS is in some way fubar in this
respect.

Others may tell you differently.
