clear > /etc/issue.clear	# yes! you too can redirect clear to a file
cat /etc/issue.clear /etc/issue.illbebackinaminute > /etc/issue
rm /etc/issue.clear /etc/issue.illbebackinaminute

Or just put 25 newlines at the start of /etc/issue :)

Ensure you do the clear > file in the terminal you want the clear to happen 
- just to ensure terminal types are correct. /etc/issue only gets displayed 
on the VT unless you've set summat else up :)
