Thank you - I hadn't thought of that - I will put 'clear >/etc/issue' in
the rc script before it generates /etc/issue at boot.

But then my gettys will be at the bottom of the screen :(

Naw, but then again I've got an ancient version of Slack and they may be
doing things different these days.
