This is just from a shaky memory. When I was using Debian Potato, I had a
file Wmroot or Wmmenu in my user directory with no entries other that it
pointed to a file menu (or similiar) which was a tree or two down in /etc or
/usr. This file said it was auto generated, it said don't edit I think but I
did because some apps, e.g. staroffice 5.2 wasn't in the menu. The menus
worked ok but I think my entries disappeared and had to be re entered, when I
added another program via apt-get.
