Oh .. okay. Apologies to those of us who don't want to know about
it..

Back on January 7th it was explained to me by BT that I would have to
have my ISDN line removed in order to have it tested for broadband.
They came along and removed my line. The week after they told me on
the phone that there was no need to remove my line. They could test
it with ISDN still intact. No line left. Just an analogue line. A
week later they arrived to install broadband. Line doesn't suport
broadband. Can't be installed. What followed made Dads' Army and
most of the Ealing comedy films look like serious documentary by
comparison. Meanwhile I had to build a new computer that would
support a 56K modem at enormous cost to myself. You can imagine what
I thought about that ?

Throughout February BT kept on telephoning me to explain first one
story and then another. Came down to the fact that having removed
ISDN line tests showed that ISDN couldn't be installed on my line.
So, I aska da kwestiun... why is it that if my line has supported
ISDN and Home Highway for two years why is it that things have
changed now ? Much scuffling in the background and changing of
trousers.

I was standing in a castle in Bouillon in Belgium when my mobile phone
went off in my pocket on the morning of the 5th of February.. for
more info ..

http://www.perledelasemois.com ....

A BT manager .. probably a senior one .. said to me that he would go
out of his way to rebuild the local exchange and put HH back into my
home address for me. He had moved a lot of things around. Hardware
that is. He was certain that it would now happen. Later on I was
having lunch at l'Cafe Baratin - a local art gallery and music venue
- potage et cafe - kindalike potatoes and cheese and veg - when the
phone went off again. Same fella in England telling me about the new
HH installation which would now go ahead.

Last week my BT technician arrived - I now have my own personal BT
technician - and re-fitted HH. Now works fine. So, that's a total
of about 2.5 months to re-install ISDN when there was no need to have
it removed anyway.

I seem to remember something from my childhood. A song on BBC radio
in the 1960's which was by Flanders and Swan.. The Gas Man Cometh ..
or something like that ... T'was on the Monday morning that the gas
man came to call ....

Thanks
