Hi all,
Im just about to make the switch to Redhat 8.0
permanently.
I did post a message a few days ago about accessing
an NTFS file system through Redhat.
The problem, as I later discovered is not mounting
the NTFS system, but the fact it was located on a Promise RAID controller. The
promise site has no downloads and everything Ive found on the subject is along
the lines of Promise not releasing the code for a decent driver to be
developed.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I now have a
brand spanking Hightpoint RocketRAID 404 raid card. The performance is fab, and
its 4 channels ie upto 8 devices.
My only issue, having downloaded the drivers for
Redhat 8 from Highpoints website, is that they have included a new BIOS update
for the card, within the driver bundle. This update is not available if you go
to the main download section.
I'm not sure if the included BIOS is a linux only
one or not. I have emailed them but have not had a reply.
I know BIOS' are not normally tied to a particular
OS as such, but I'm reluctant to update it until I know a little more of
it.
Does anyone else have one of these cards, or any
experience of it ?
The disks attached to it hold over 40Gb of data,
and thats before the installation of any OS. I'm very cautious at the moment due
to the amount of info I stand to lose if it goes wrong.
Anybody have any ideas......
TIA.
Steve.
