Hi Rob,
I have just installed Red Hat 8.0 on my Dell Latitude X200. The CD-RW is
firewire which is only in experimental stages. If your DVD drive is also
firewire then I'm afraid that you will have to install it either over a
network - or using another external CD-ROM drive - USB works fine.
You also need to upgrade the Red Hat 8.0 kernel from 2.4.18 to 2.4.20.
It still isn't completely perfect though. To get my drive to work, I
have to remove the module sbp2 and then re-insert it. The drive is
attached as a scsi so I have a link from /dev/cdrom to /dev/scd0.
I'll stop rambling now in case your drive isn't firewire.
