[Sheflug] Problems with RPM Redhat 8.0
Dear shef-lug,
has anyone experienced problems with the Red Hat package manager rpm?
Once upon a time, it seemed to work fine. Now whenever I try and install
an rpm, either by double clicking on the particular rpm in the nautilus
file manager or at the command line by typing rpm -i package.rpm, I get
in repsonse to the double click, "preparing system update" then nothing
(the same thing happens in menu>System Settings>Packages) and in
repsonse to rpm -i a pause, then my prompt.
I am aware that there is some locking problem:
"If you have any problems with RPM 4.1 locking (seemingly) beyond
repair, try
to remove /var/lib/rpm/__db.* and try again. These files seem to be
temporary
cache files and it will not harm your RPM database to remove them."
I have done the above but get the same no response.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.
Nicola.
