I've seen a few.  One of the more notable ones was the Pegasus Mail 
for winduhs person out in the States whose house got struck by 
lightning.  The modem blew up and then the computer shortly 
afterwards thus causing a fire which damaged a lot of his house.  
That was about 3-5 years ago.  Didn't do him or his familly a lot of 
good.

Best to earth modems or routers if you can.
