Slackware or Debian maybe, given that it wasn't a huge spec. They both
aren't too hard to install, but are lightweight. My preference is for
Slack (I've got complaints against Debian ... see the list archives).

Thing is it may be a bit of a learning curve to what you're used to as
neither hold your hand in the way that SuSE/Mandrake/Redhat do (or claim
to do).

Given that you may end up needing to install some things manually (I don't
think Slack comes with exim, but I can't remember for certain; Debian
probably does), on a muppet-rating scale of Gonzo to Kermit, where do you
think you fall?
