Gotcha! The answer is simple - re-initialise devfsd to pick up the
camera.
su
/etc/init.d/devfsd restart
exit
wmwebcam &
I've noticed that with this webcam you get a little preview window if
you run twm, but not if you run (hardcore users gasp in horror...) KDE.
