I had various problems getting hardware to work properly, if at all, and
getting the desktop displays to appear as I wanted them to, and then stay
that way was another headache.

The whole experience just felt a bit of a let-down, particularly as I tried
it alongside Redhat and Mandrake, and they seemed to accomplish what I
wanted quite easily.

Package management wasn't to my taste either, but thats was a personal thing
rather than being problematic.

On the desktop displays, I stuck with KDE. It feels more friendly to use for
me, but I've never really considered it to be particularly slick.

It was the overall experience that did it for me, not a specific issue.

Steve.
