    It could've been a KDE+Karamba set up. they look quite sweet. The
transparency option is available for konsole on KDE (and prssumably
for gonsole, or whatever the gnome equivalent's called). 

    In Knosole, you go to Settings, and colours. There's a few
"transparent" options there. I personally prefer to switch desktops.
