On the laptop front is it any better with Windows modems?  Anybody tried it?
I'd love to keep it on my laptop but it loses internet connectivity once out
of the office as I couldn't get the winmodem to work under 8.2 (Sony Vaio
PCG F801A).

Also when I leave the laptop on for any period of time and am not using it
the screen goes blank (part of its APM I suppose) but it never comes back
without a full reboot!
