have followed this thread ...

the only vaguely interesting comments i can respond with are these

1. wvdial on Suse 7.3 - found it 'phones home' to Suse when i was playing with iptables.
I have not identified the request yet but there is definite attempt to access to www.suse.de.

2. It's terrifying when you lose (or thought you have lost) your root passwd.
(Stoically sticking to dual machine with bootdisk)
