Hmm, well, just to put the cat amongst the pidgeons I will say that
Fedora has me interested and might just tempt me back to RedHat on the
desktop - I've been using Debian Sid for a while now, but the idea of
having a 6-month release cycle system kind of appeals. It's clear that
Fedora is still getting a good bit of Q&A attention; hence the two day
wait while they respun things this week.

Yup, I couldn't use Debian stable for a desktop. I currently run sid, so
I have Gnome 2.4 and a nice version of OpenOffice.org 1.1.
To be honest, sid is pretty stable and I haven't had any problems with
it for a while now. But, you do need to keep aware of what's going on so
when massive breakage hits you know to steer clear.
The configuration thing is the reason I'm thinking of going to Fedora,
especially on my laptop: pretty much everything works with Debian, but
some of it is a pain (like USB bluetooth) and I just can't be arsed to
read through everything and figure out how it works.
I've also heard some very good things about Fedora from those who've
tried it. Built in working good 3d hardware support. Actually, very good
support and detection of most hardware in general. But, time will tell.
I'll perhaps be giving it a run this weekend...
Cheers,
Alex.
