[Sheflug] Xine / "live update"
Richard - worked out what I did wrong!!!!!
Good morning Penguin Heads
I recently installed Mandrake 9.1 onto my home machine and hope you don't
mind a couple of fairly straight forward questions:
Whilst trying to get Xine to work, I de-installed the supplied version and
downloaded the tarball from the home page and installed, I used the package
manager to do this, but It removed the entry from the KDE menu. I managed
to create a short cut on my desktop, but can't work out how to put it back
on the menu or at least change the icon from a gear cog to something more
meaningful. Xine works fine now, so it is just a niggle (the actual problem
was I needed libdvdcss library.... RTFM or web page in this case).
When I first installed ML9.1 I updated using the package manager "live
update". I have a conaxant hcf winmodem but was given an old Motorola
Voicesurfr 56k modem, which only ran at 33 kbps (ish) so the upate took for
ever!. After updating ML9.1, I downloaded the firmware update (which
wouldn't run from Windows 2K, but would run on W98 - strange) and it now
runs at 56k (ish) but it appears I can't connect to the update server, I get
a lot of modem activity but nothing happens, it doesn't seem to pull any
info off the server any ideas? my gut feeling is the problem is the firmware
update and freeserve (I read something somewhere....................)
Overall very impressed, I have two drive, win98 on one drive (d:) and
w2k/ML9.1 on the other (c:) and have only booted windows once since
installing. Still struggling with wine (installed but not configured yet) -
but its a learning process!!
Thanks
Steve
