Had a chat to a Debian developer recently who runs Zetnet - 
www.zetnet.com.   He said downgrade to an older X-server.

I've also had the same problem.  I was running  KDE 3.0.5a and then 
upgraded to 3.1.4.   Doing this and changing the X-server solved the 
problem.  Then I found that the xx.4.22 kernel had some bugs...
