Thanks for the replies. I've had a go at samba, which so far is showing my 
linux box from the win98 box but I havn't set things up write yet to write to 
it.
Had a go at using gftp and ssh to access my win98 box from my linux box but I 
get the message, connection refused, not worked out how to set the 
permissions.
Can't get the copy and paste to work yet via vnc.
I'll carry on working on the above ideas, great way of learning things.
