Well, if you /really/ want to clear everything, you can always use:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/X bs=512 count=10000
Which'll easily destroy the partition table, boot record and a sizable
chunk of the first partition! (Replace X with the drive you require -
e.g. hda, sda, hdb, hde, whatever).
