[Sheflug] no display (again!)

Dear all,

Not sure what caused it this time but it may have been an auto update from
the suse website as that was one of the last things I did. This included a
Xwindows security patch. My Suse 9 Linux box (with intel video chipset)
boots, shows the grub splash screen, shows the text mode boot progress but
then the screen goes blank when it would normally bring up x windows login
screen. Choosing failsafe allows me to get to the command line and then to
startx logged in as root. Choosing failsafe and just vga=normal as start up
options leaves a blank screen on start[ing]x. Failsafe boot and log in as
me and startx gives a blank screen.

Just tried logging in as root after a failsafe start and startx now gives
root a blank screen too. What is the file I should be editing whilst in
text mode to allow me to check resolution and refresh rates etc for x?

Everything else appears to be working, server in contactable by ping,
outgoing email is still working etc

Any help appreciated

Chris Johnson
