how about pressing ALT + SHIFT + F2 and getting a console up

logging on as root
Then typing
init 3 at the root shell prompt.

This will kill of X and any other gui stuff and drop you down to run level 3
which is full multiuser + networking but no graphical interface.

Then as root run

sax2

Which is the SuSE walk through configuring x and mouse and keyboards etc.

After gettin X happy again you could type
init 5

as root

which'll start up X and gui stuff again.

?
