[Sheflug] Sheffield Green Party: Linux for Sheffield City Council

Dear All,

Thanks very much to those who responded with such useful, detailed
replies and pointers.

What I take from theses messages is:

* that several Councils are/were evaluating or deploying Linux for
part or all of their infrastructure, notably: Munich, Nottingham,
Newham.

* that several Sheffield schools are deploying Linux for part or all
of their infrastructure but that the Council itself is better
resourced to pilot such migration.

* Linux is gaining ground fast but still has some way to go in terms
of availability of applications, interoperability with M$, percieved
availability of support.

* that Linux terminal-servers run well on low end hardware and,
espcecially if used with flat screens, offer big power savings and
cooler/quieter running.

* Useful links are:

Thanks again.

Julian
