Hi Janet,

Oh dear. I have found that kudzu is a real pain on Redhat systems. The
problem being that is generally decided that something had changed with
the system that was only a temporary change (eg I forgot to plug a mouse
in) and would then want to mess about configuring the system. I always
switch it off and find that it reduces headaches. Don't know how to do
this with graphical config tools, but at command line it would be (as
root):

/sbin/chkconfig --level 012345 kudzu off

A runlevel is the "mode" in which the computer is running. Your Redhat
computer has several modes in which it can run. Runlevel 5, for example
is "multiuser mode with graphical windows" - ie the mode you will almost
always want the computer to run in. If the computer was sitting on the
internet being just a web server, and so didn't need any graphical
interface, it would be set to Runlevel 3, which is "normal multiuser
mode". Runlevel 0 is the run level which means "shutting the system
down". So, if it asks you which mode at boot time, try 5.

Seb.
