[Sheflug] Printing issue

Hello everyone

I have a printer problem and it's easier for me to explain how it occurs rather than try and state what it is.

I went to print something this morning and noticed the printer (a rather venerable Epson Stylus Color 740) was quiet. Then I noticed the green light was flashing. I cleared the error and waited for the print job to start. Instead of the print job I got the usual gibberish from a broken print job.

I cancelled the job with no problems but still get loads of this gibberish being printed out. When this happens I try to be economical and use only one sheet of paper, refeeding it each time to grab yet another line or so of gibberish. As you can imagine this is tedious and it takes a while to clear the printer of the job.

I recall this kind of behaviour with print jobs as far back as Microsoft Xenix days. I know that laser printers carry job cancel options but I've never found out how to do that on the Epson.

When the printer gets in to this state, is there anything I can do to stop a print job being loaded up to the printer? Are there any printer modules which look ahead and detect the state of the printer and stop feed to the printer from the print server so that I don't end up with a buffer load of gibberish coming out that has to be cleared in the manner described above?

Regards

Lesley
