Re: [Sheflug] Incoming /outgoing mail archives

Is it possible to set up Exim or another mail server so that once mail has

years of emails from my laptop. As I'm about to set up a mail server at
home to connect my laptop to I was wondering if I could help prevent this
loss next time by archiving all incoming and outgoing email.
Why not just collect email via imap, and set it up for offline viewing
too. That way all mail could be stored on the mail server and the laptop
etc. You can also access the same mailboxes via webmail whilst away or
on another PC. You can also do a quick 'tar -cvjf mailback.tar.bz2
.maildir/' to back up all your mail on the server, and then back that up
onto CD or whatever you prefer.
It's the way I have done it for years. I take weekly snapshots of
mailboxes too, just in case I delete something I really wanted. It is
just one alternative anyway. There are many IMAP servers such as
bincimap, courier-imap, cyrus-imap, uw-imap etc. You can use offlineimap
too.
