Hi Janet

You don't say if you are networking two separate boxen or dual booting. Apologies if you've already said and I have missed that or forgotten it.

If you are networking two boxes then the only way I am aware that Linux and Windows can talk to each other is via Samba running on the Linux box.

If you are dual booting, then, to be honest, I need to update my knowledge of what Windows partitions Linux systems can read. I *think* (but please read up on this) that Linux can read/write to FAT and FAT32 partitions but can only read an NTFS partition.

Others here might correct me on these points.

Windows 'sharing' folders are really only recognised by other Windows machines. I feel you should be careful about using those unless you are sure they are secure from outsiders on the Internet. The shared folders are where people put stuff they want to share with *everyone* e.g. pirated music, DVD's and videos.

If you are dual booting then take a look at your partition table. A 'df -h' command will list your mounted partitions and tell you stuff like how much diskspace they are using.

You might see the windows partitions on your disk listed there if they are mounted.

If this doesn't help then try 'less /etc/fstab' to look at your mounting possibilities to see what's in there. Check, by reading up in HOWTO's (/usr/share/doc/howto/en/html on SuSE), on how to mount a FAT or NTFS partition.

You'll need an xterm window on the RH side to be able to execute these commands.

Please write back here if you have any further questions and **I would advise a back up of your data** :)

Failing all this, the easiest alternative is to copy the data off onto a floppy or CD. You can use zip on the Windows side and should be able to unzip the data on the RH side. ;)

(This last bit assumes that you would be converting to use RH to retrieve your mail. Or happy to repeat the process a number of times.)

Regards and HTH

Lesley
