[Sheflug] Linux and Windows

For work related reasons I have just had to install and use WinXP after two years more or less solid on SuSe.

I now know why windows is the first choice OS.

Linux bung in the DVD make some choices and you are up and running.

Windows: Install the OS, install the hardware drivers, sort out the conflicts. Then install the applications, and install the applications and install the applications. Then you have to run check disk, de-frag, disc cleanup and so on. Then there is the need to run system file checker because of applications over-writing Dlls... You then need to sort out system security so that you know what information your system is telling the world. You need to hunt for worms, trojans and all sorts of spy-ware. And then you have the sheer joy of the Blue Screen Challenge of the week...

This is why windows is the most successful OS. It is a challenge, it is not easy. It is for the technically gifted, not the joe user. It is for the person with no friends and nothing better to do. It fills a void in your life that you never new you had, and presents employment opportunities to divorce lawyers by producing very bored partners.

Linux is just so boringly reliable and easy to use, its no fun at all.
