Kopete by far is the best Messenger I have ever used. And yes, it will do
smileys. It is fantastic to have all my friends (I call them friends!) from
ICQ (good old days), MSN (bad new days) and Yahoo, in one nice and clean
interface.

Gnomeeting, as installed by Suse 9.1 worked like a charm with my £12 USB no
name Camera. I managed (not that I had to try hard) to have a conversation
between gnomeeting and MS Netmeeting and I was well impressed.

I think, slowly Linux is going to get a bigger and bigger partition in my
Hard Drive!

I'm wanting to install linux on my mum's pc. Suse or mandrake are
ideal for her. She only uses her pc for the odd games, e-mail,
browsing, webcam and messengers.
So before I go and install....which she is happy for me to do, I
need to find out that she can still do what she does now.
I don't use messengers myself, but are the messengers on offer as
good as aol, msn and yahoo? Can they still send smiley's etc?
Kopete

Can
anyone recommend a program for the webcam? To enable chat etc
Gnomemeeting but check out the hardware and make sure it works :)

Was thinking about having a go at this myself but can't find someone
to try it out on.

Sorry to go off topic slightly but would mind telling me what that USB web cam was? I've been looking for a cheap Linux compatible web cam for a while.
